The 2016 IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Innovative Business Practices for the Transformation of Societies (IEEE EmergiTech 2016) was organised jointly with the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) and aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum where industry, Government, and academia will meet to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns regarding the evolution of technology and its impact on societies and businesses. The conference included 10 symposia reflecting the latest technological developments and research interests. The program also featured a rich set of workshops and tutorials as well as a featured exhibition space that provided the attendees with a distinctive conference experience.

Technological innovation is evolving in faster and faster cycles. One of the most recent waves of disruption manifests in the progress in the field of Robotics, Automation and Artificial Intelligence. These innovations combined with the current Megatrends will impose global challenges on our societies and on humankind. We are proposing a holistic, dynamical model to address the ethical, moral, social, political and economic aspects of these transformational processes in advance: Technology Governance will provide a methodology to define frameworks and guidelines involving all stakeholders in a structured, interdisciplinary discourse.
